How to make Pale Ale in Stardew Valley

How to get hardwood in Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is a game all about farming and crafting. There are so many items that can be crafted and sold that you’re never going to run out of things to do. The game has a healthy amount of options. Of course, some items are not so healthy, like the Pale Ale in Stardew Valley. Brewing is pretty simple in this game, as you don’t need to worry about yeast choices, sugar content, brewing times and the science behind it all. The game simplifies the entire process into a very basic waiting game. There are also other things you can brew, but the new 1.5 update has added some new recipes you should really try out.

Like in real-world brewing, you’re going to need hops. And depending on how many brews you want, you’re going to need a lot of kegs. Let’s start by talking about the hops.

Harvesting Hops

You only need to grow one thing to make this work, it’s much simpler than actual brewing, as you only need hops. The Hop seeds cost 60 gold from the general store, buy a bunch and get planting. You will need to wait 11 days from seed to harvest, during that time, plan out your brewing operation. The more work you do ahead of time, the faster the turnaround and profit are. Hops sell for 25 gold at least and 37 gold at its highest value, so there’s no real reason to sell them once grown. You instead new to use them to brew beer. They’re only sold during Summer, so be sure to stock up when you can. You can keep it in chests and it won’t rot either, making your prep work much easier.

Brewing Pale Ale

Once you have plenty of hops you’re ready to start brewing, this will mean that the Fall months are much more focused in brewing than other months, as the Summer is when you’re growing your hops. When you have your hops, you just place them inside kegs, very easy. Although, you should be aware that you have to unlock the necessary recipes first. You need to reach Farming Level 8 to unlock the Kegs and other things you need to start brewing Pale Ale in Stardew Valley.

Here are the items you need to make a keg, which is what you then use to brew and store the Pale Ale:

  • 30 Wood
  • 1 Copper Bar
  • 1 Iron Bar
  • 1 Oak Resin

Now you just have to wait. It tasks about two days to brew inside the keg, which can then be sold. The Pale Ale will fetch 300 gold at its base value, 375 gold for an item with silver stars, 450 gold for gold stars, and 600 gold for the highest quality, iridium, with those purple stars. The higher the quality of hops used, the better the resulting item.

The quick turnaround time means that there’s plenty of Gold to be made doing this. Getting the materials for the many kegs to scale it is the hard part. You can likely mine out a few of these materials in your first year, while waiting for the hops to grow mature. While you’re waiting, plan out the rest of your farm and get ready to rake in the dough.
