How to make an anvil in Minecraft

Minecraft

Anvils in Minecraft allow you to rename items, repair items and even take advantage of some enchantments. To make an anvil, you will require three blocks of iron, and four iron ingots laid out as described down below:

  • Top row- Iron Block, Iron Block, Iron Block
  • Middle row – Empty, Iron Ingot, Empty
  • Bottom row – Iron Ingot, Iron Ingot, Iron Ingot

They can potentially become damaged from usage, with a twelve percent chance of losing some durability whenever they are used. Eventually, an anvil will break down and will need to be replaced. If you find an Anvil in Minecraft somewhere else in the game, you can only mine it with a pickaxe. If you use any other tool, it will result in the anvil breaking and not dropping anything. This makes finding Villages in the game pretty important, as they often contain Anvils.

How to repair items with an anvil

You can repair items with an anvil in two ways. You can place two items of the same type in the anvil, and the remaining durability of the two will be combined. Any items you Enchant with an anvil will retain their Enchantments very well. The other way is to use the same materials that were used in the creation of the item to repair it at an anvil. For example, an Iron Sword will require Iron, a Diamond Sword will require Diamonds, and so on.

Enchanting items with an anvil

You can also enchant items using an anvil and Enchanted Books, and Enchanted Books can be combined to increase their levels. An alternate enchantment table can be used when you are stuck for space.
