You will need a lot of weapons to handle the undead hordes in Project Zomboid. These crafty little zombies are no joke, and you need to be prepared to face them. There is an entire mountain of items in Project Zomboid. Players fighting back the horde of undead will find many useful widgets during their time in Knox county. As always, Project Zomboid constantly gets new items added. And with mods, there’s even more that can be added to the game. So keep in mind that these recipes and uses can and do change.
Having a huge zombie horde chase you is a big problem. You can’t outrun them forever, you need to get rid of them somehow. One of the more common tricks to clear large hordes involves fire. Many players will load up into a vehicle, such as an ambulance, to draw out large hordes from buildings. The horde will chase the loud car, and you simply light them up with Molotov cocktails. Making this work relies first on actually making the incendiary weapon.
How to make a Molotov Cocktail in Project Zomboid
To make a Molotov Cocktail in Project Zomboid, you will need an Empty Bottle and either a full Gas Can or a bottle of Bourbon. You also need Ripped Sheets. Most of the items can be found all over the map. You just need to have a bottle and a fuel item on your person to make this item. It can be found inside the typical crafting menu. The one trick with using it is that you also need a lighter on your person. A lighter must be in the secondary slot in order to use the Molotov.
Ripped Sheets can be harvested from any sheets in the game, often found in homes. You will actually need these for a lot of things, not just Molotovs. Keep in mind that it’s possible boil water and use that to clean bandages, or to make it drinkable. These methods can be vital when trying to deal with an infection and keeping wounds clean.
Gas cans and a few other useful items are often found at Gas Stations. In Project Zomboid, you can find Gas Stations outside of nearly all towns in the game. To find Gas Stations, look for green icons on the map. Green icons will display both retail and commercial buildings in the game. To fill a Gas Can in Project Zomboid, you will need to either siphon gas from a car, or find a gas can already filled. You just need to right-click the fuel pump or the car and select the appropriate option.
Empty bottles are the easiest thing to get. You can find them as trash loot in houses, but they are also spawned when the player consumes bourbon and a few other drinks. You can use empty bottles belonging to the following types for Molotovs:
- Bourbon
- Beer
- Red Wine
- White Wine
What does the Molotov Cocktail do?
Molotov cocktails do not cause any damage upon impact. They will, however, spark a fire. When thrown it spawns a 3×3 area of fire around the impact. Be aware that fire does spread in this game, so you will not want to use this indoors or somewhere you cannot escape. It will spread fairly fast, so throw ti an d move away as fast as you can.
To throw it, you first need to equip the cocktail as your primary weapon. Once you have the molotov equipped as the primary weapon, equip a lighter or matches in the secondary. From there, simply hold down the right mouse button to aim your throw. The throw isn’t always 100% accurate, so try your best to get the impact spot near your target. Press the left mouse button to release the bottle once you’re ready.
