Remnant: From the Ashes is already difficult enough, but if you want more challenge, the Survival mode is where you need to look. You only get a single basic weapon and a small pile of resources to start, and the enemies are ruthless. With your basic pistol and 1,000 scrap, you will have to survive increasingly difficult battles with enemies all around you. It’s fun but incredibly hard.
The new content update released today for all three main platforms is due, but the Survival Mode is only out now on PC, and will come to PS4 and Xbox One in May. Players will be able to access the new mode through the Ward 13 World Crystal. In the main room, each of the obelisks that are glowing around the main world stone act as a shop for players to buy gear and various character upgrades. But when it comes to traits in Remnant: From the Ashes’ Survival Mode, you can’t just buy them outright.
To unlock traits in Remnant: From the Ashes’ Survival Mode you have to find them during play. The traits are not upgradable like the normal campaign either, as you are not awarded points to invest in them. To level up any of the traits you have on your character, you need
The survival mode is basically a rogue-like within Remnant: From the Ashes, so don’t expect the traits you do find to carry over to a new run either. This places a heavy emphasis on how to manage your time and plan your build. Taking the wrong path when planning out your build based on the gear and traits you have can doom you in later levels. The trait drops seem pretty randomized, and it appears as though the best way to find them is through loot drops from killing enemies. The mini-bosses and other tough enemies appear to have the best drop rate for traits.
The more traits you have, the stronger you will be, but be careful not to focus too much on picking up traits in Remnant: From the Ashes as gear and scrap drops are just as important. And yes, traits do stack so it’s pretty easy to get a nice power boost if you find several during a run.
And finally, don’t expect to be able to make the same build each time. The trait spawn locations as well as which traits spawn is totally random. So that means each run through the new Survival Mode will be using a unique build each time.
