There are many different powerful enchantments in Diablo 2, and with the release of Diablo 2 Resurrected, a lot of people seem to need a refresher. Many items in the game can be enchanted using the socket system. One of the more useful recipes to use to enhance items is Spirit in Diablo 2 Resurrected. This powerful enchantment gives you a noticeable boost to damage types and your base skills. Weapons with Spirit also grant a bunch of other bonuses. The same thing can be said of shields that have it applied.
What does Spirit do in Diablo 2 Resurrected?
Depending on what item you apply Spirit in D2R to, you get a different effect. Spirit adds the following stats to a weapon or shield:

- +22 to Vitality
- +89-112 to Mana
- +3-8 Magic Absorb
- +25-35% Faster Cast Rate
- +55% Faster Hit Recovery
- Adds 1-50 Lightning Damage
- Adds 3-14 Cold Damage for 3 Seconds
- +75 Poison Damage over 5 seconds
- 7% Life Stolen Per Hit
- +250 Defense vs. Missiles
Shield
- +2 to all skills
- +22 to Vitality
- +89-112 to Mana
- +3-8 Magic Absorb
- +25-35% Faster Cast Rate
- +55% Faster Hit Recovery
- +250 Defense vs. Missiles
- Cold Resist +35%
- Lightning Resist +35%
- Poison Resist +35%
- Attacker takes damage of 14
This is one of the more complex recipes in the game. You need a four-socket item to make this thing work. For swords, you will need an item level between 26 and 41 to guarantee four open sockets. You can only get four-socket shields in Hell Difficulty from killing enemies, making it much harder to get a shield for something like a caster class.
Here is the recipe to make the Runewords for Spirit:
- Base Sword or Shield with four open sockets
- Tal Rune
- Thul Rune
- Ort Rune
- Amn Rune
Remember, you need to place the items into the recipe in the order listed above. So start with the item being enhanced, following with the Tal, then Thul, then Ort runes. Finally, put in the Amn Rune to finish it up.
Getting the runes is fairly simple once you have a high-level character. The Countess can drop all of these runes. For example, you can get the Thul and Amn Rune from The Countess on Nightmare or Hell Difficulty. You can get the other Rune from doing Normal Countess boss fights and farming her. The Rescue on Mount Arreat quest awards a Ral rune, an Ort rune, and a Tal rune.
Finally, you can transmute three Ral runes to create one Ort rune.
