How to Get Honeycomb in Minecraft

Guide to Copper in Minecraft Caves & Cliffs update

Honeycomb in Minecraft is a very sweet and useful treat.  You can use it to make copper that’s resistant to the elements. This is very useful if you want to use copper for decoration, as it prevents the stages of the patina from advancing. The crafting recipes can also be put to use making your own beehives. So if you want to industrialize your Minecraft world, keep reading to learn how to make your own honey farm.

Getting prepped ahead of time can save you from headaches later. Here are the things you’re going to need:

  • Shears – You can craft Shears using 2 Iron Ingots, made by smelting Iron Ore
  • Campfire – You can craft a Campfire using 3 logs, 3 sticks, and 1 charcoal. (Optional)
  • Dispenser – You can craft a Dispenser using 7 Cobblestone, 1 Redstone and 1 Bow. (Optional)

You might also want to have your copper ore ready to use. if you want to lock your copper blocks into a certain visual state, you need to apply beeswax at the right time. Once you’ve made your blocks and let them age to the state you want, apply the beeswax to the copper blocks to lock them in that state. You can also remove oxidation from copper blocks by having them get struck by lightning. This will reset any stage of oxidization, even if it is fully oxidized. This is helpful for when you forgot to wax a block and need to reset to wax it properly. So make sure you take the time to get some Honeycomb and wax your copper in Minecraft.

How to Get Honeycomb in Minecraft

There are a few methods you can use to get your hands on more Honeycomb in Minecraft. The most common method is to just harvest bee nests. The nests are a living part of each biome they exist in.  Bees will collect the pollen daily if there are flowers near their nest. Each time a bee returns to the next from collecting pollen, the honey level of the next will increase by one. When the honey level of a bee nest or beehive reaches 5, you can see the honey start dripping from the nest. That’s how you know it’s a good spot for a nest.\

Thing is, the bees will defend their hives if attacked. The first thing you need to watch out for is those giant bees. Grabbing the Honeycomb will anger all of the bees inside, so be careful. Once you’ve found the nest, you have to be quick. Approach the Nest and use your Shears on it. Three units of Honeycomb will drop from it.

How to Get Honeycomb in Minecraft Safely

The best way to harvest a nest is to build a fire source underneath it before harvesting it with Shears. Make a Campfire with 3 logs, 3 sticks, and 1 charcoal. Place it under the bee nest and ignite it, either with a flint and steel, or a fire charge. Hitting the nest on top of a campfire will not trigger the bees to spawn and attack. This represents the practice of using wood smoke to pacify beehives in real life.

Another option is to hang a Dispenser loaded with Shears next to the nest, then trigger it remotely with Redstone signals. This is the safest and fastest way for most people if they lack the ability to make fire. But really, a campfire is just much faster.

So what can you use beeswax and honey for? First, you can use your Honeycomb to make a Beehive. Beehives work exactly the same as Bee Nests, but you can place them wherever you want. Just fill the top and bottom rows of a crafting table with wood planks of any kind, then fill the remaining center row with wax. This will allow you to make your own hive.
