With the release of The Isle of Armor DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield, there have been a bunch of new additions to the Switch game. The new island region outside of the main Galar region holds dozens of new and returning Pokémon. In these new areas players will also find trainers to battle. But on the gameplay side of things, we’re about to need a bigger Gym. That’s because Gigantamax versions of various monsters are coming to the game for the first time. And yes, that includes Gigantamax versions of Squirtle or Bulbasaur.
Over the course of the story in the DLC, players will have a choice between the two. You can pick either Gigantamax versions of Squirtle or Bulbasaur. You will encounter this choice the first time you head into the Master Dojo. The trial, with the new Gym leader Mustard, gives you a quick primer on Gigantamax and allows you to pick one of the two forms.
From there, you’re sent out into the Wild Area with a challenge. Your goal is to collect the stolen uniforms. For some reason the uniforms of Klara or Avery have been stolen by a pack of Slowpoke. Not that you have much trouble chasing them down, but still, weird. The spawns are random though, so just venture around the Wild Area until you find the three Slowpoke. Chase down the uniforms and head back to the Dojo.
Honey will summon the Bulbasaur and Squirtle and let you pick. You don’t get the option for both though, so choose carefully. The only way to get both is to take advantage of the trading system to get the one you don’t choose. Hopefully you have a friend who doesn’t want their Gigantamax versions of Squirtle or Bulbasaur.
Keep in mind that you need to evolve your chosen Pokémon to unlock all of its potential. Once the monster reaches its final evolution, the full Gigantamax form is unlocked.
