How to get Enchanted Books in Minecraft

How to make a bookshelf in Minecraft

Minecraft has a lot of magic in it. There are various enchantments in Minecraft that you can use to improve your gear. Getting them often relies on way too much RNG though, so players kind of hate the grind. You could waste time making a bookshelf and other items needed to make enchants manually, but this could be faster. Refer to our guide on making books and paper to get started on that. But if you want to try another method, keep reading. Here is how to get Enchanted Books in Minecraft.

How to get Enchanted Books in Minecraft

There are a multitude of methods you can use to get these. Here are the best methods you can use to get more.

Fishing

Fishing with the right enchantments on the fishing pole can drastically speed this process up by getting a bunch of enchanting books. You can also get the enchantment book from fishing in the water, but it’s a very rare drop. To improve your odds of getting it, get both the Lure and Luck of the Sea enchantments on the fishing pole. These will increase the odds of getting enchantment books from fishing.

Chests

As you explore areas in your world, you will encounter a few different areas that can have these items. Chests are actually a pretty good source of Enchanted Books. Players will find Nether Fortresses, Temples, and more throughout the various biomes that contain chests. Finding these can give you ores, food and books. So get out there and see what you can find.

Raiding and Villages

Minecraft’s village raids are unique instances where evil NPCs will tackle a peaceful village, trying to wipe it out. There’s a whole system of mechanics you can mess around with to force village raids, and it’s tons of fun. Whatever method you use, your goal is to take out the raiding NPCs. When you kill the Illagers and other attacking NPCs, you can potentially get Enchanted Books.

You can also get Enchanted Books from Villagers by trading with them. You need Emeralds to do it. Find a librarian or other villager with a job to see what they have.

Piglins

You can trade Gold to Piglins in the Nether to get random items. To barter, either throw down a gold ingot next to a Piglin, or right-click on them with a gold ingot in your hand.  This is a common speedrunning tactic, and it can be really useful. Here are all of the possible items you can receive from bartering. Note that you also currently have a low chance in Bedrock Edition only to receive a Netherite Hoe from bartering.
