How to get a horse in V Rising

V Rising Guides

V Rising being a crafting-focused game, of course there’s farming too. You may be a powerful vampire trying to expand their territory, but you can’t do everything on your own. You need to recruit Servants to take care of missions for you. Players also need to hunt down rare and common resources for crafting, such as Gem stones and dust, or maybe Sulfur. That all is just the early game though, there’s so much more.

V Rising puts far more emphasis on survival than a more action-oriented vamp game. Surviving against the many enemies is going to be tough. Blood is the core of your survival. You will need blood to continue fighting and growing your power. Part of that growth also entails unlocking new forms for both combat and travel. You don’t particularly need a horse to get around, but it is helpful. Wolf form and other faster modes of transit can act as a decent stopgap if you’re in trouble.

How to get a horse in V Rising

Getting a horse in V Rising is pretty straightforward, and you just have to know where to look. As you explore around the map, you will often find militia encampments that include various forms of enemies, and tons of loot. These are actually the best place to find a wild horse in the game. The Dunley Farmlands area seems to have a bunch of them.

When you find a horse, walk over to it in human form. Press F to mount it and then travel back to your keep. However, be sure to Fast Travel to your Castle via a Waygate, and the horse will be tamed. Once a horse has been tamed, you’ll be able to change its name and a few other details. The world of V Rising is immense, and it can be helpful to get around a bit faster, so it’s not a bad idea to find one.

Using your new steed

You will need to take care of a horse once you have it. Press Tab to open up the horse’s inventory when nearby, you will see some slots for Canteens. A single Water-filled Canteen will last for 7 hours, and keep the horse ready for action.

How do you control it, I hear you ask. The arrow keys while mounted control your direction of movement. Spacebar will allow you to sprint while mounted, but you will lose access to your weapons and special abilities—though you still have basic melee attacks.

There are three primary stats to every horse you find: Max Speed, Acceleration, and Turning Speed. Each of these affects how well the horse can be controlled, as well as gauge how fast it can move across terrain.

That’s all you need to know about finding and owning a horse in V Rising.

Other aspects of the game can help with your journey, like farming in V Rising and growing stuff from seeds. Seeds harvested from bosses can be used to grow unique items for crating intriguing new armor. Some of the best armor in the game is the Dark Silver gear, which is super powerful.
