How to generate rare monsters in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

It has been twenty-four years since the release of PlayStation title Monster Rancher, known in Japan as Monster Farm. The first game spawned numerous other games, as well as an anime series. Koei Tecmo has given players the chance to relive those days with Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, a bundle containing remasters of the first two titles. Players can actually spawn their own monsters, by using the CD library.

One of the core experiences in the game is raising monsters and taking part in battle tournaments. Each monster has a base stat score, ranking from E to S. E-rank monsters might seem like the worst, but they can often compete pretty well with other powerful monsters. But if you want to get your hands on the highest-ranked trophies, you need to use more powerful monsters. Most A-Rank and S-Rank monsters can be found via the CD library. But when it comes to rarer spawns, you need to complete certain goals.

How to generate rare monsters in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

For some rare monsters in Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, you need to find certain items. Like with the Phoenix, an A-rank monster, you need to find a certain item. To unlock Phoenix you need to get the Fire Feather from the Kawrea Expedition. This requires getting to D rank or higher as a Rancher, and having a Fame rating of 50 or higher. Only the first Expedition requires a D Rank monster, subsequent Expeditions require the following:

  • Monster is Rank B or above
  • Fame of 50+
  • Monster Life of 280+

For the other spawns, most of them are dependent on getting your trainer rank up. Use the list below to figure out which disc to select via the Shrine to get a specific monster. Certain breeds, like Golems also have unlocks dependent on the breed. You could also learn how to unlock the other rare breeds.

All High-Rank Monster Albums

Here are each of the known albums you can search for via the Shrine to yield B to S-rank monsters. These must first be unlocked by completing the tournaments for each rank in the IMa-FIMBA Meet. So to get the A-rank spawns from discs, you need to raise an A-rank monster.
