The Pokémon series has long had its mainstay mechanics, with one of the big elements being Evolution. The process of making Pokémon much stronger by advancing them through evolutionary chains is well-established by this point, and anyone who has played one of the games knows it pretty well. But with the newest Switch entry into the iconic franchise, the rules have changed.
Players can still evolve Pokémon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX, but there’s some extra work that needs to be done. And yes, this bit does come with a major spoiler warning. As you explore the world and the various random dungeons, your team is going to grow as you recruit new Pokémon into your rescue operation.
If you’re more of a visual learner, there’s plenty of video guides out there showing the process in-depth, check one of the best ones out below.
First and foremost, there is some work that needs to be done. Much like the other mechanics in the game, you have to progress through the story to unlock this mechanic, you need to reach a certain point in the game’s story. In this case, you need to complete the story and defeat the mission involving battling Rayquazza. Once that is done, sit back and let the cutscenes roll.
Post-credits you will be rewarded with a notification about Snubbull evolving, then you need to head to the Great Plaza and head up to where Whishcash is, another cutscene will play. After this a cave will be added to the hub world that lets you evolve Pokémon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX.
