Pokémon Go has many different evolutions from so many generations of iconic games. So that even normally didn’t have evolutions when they debuted have had some added. Onix, from Gen 1, is such a case. The Rock-type is a classic heavy-hitter from early games, but it needed to be updated as new Types were added. Enter the Steel-type evolution, Steelix. This special addon for Onix made it much more viable, and it’s in Niantic’s game. Here are all the things you need to do to evolve Onix into Steelix in Pokémon Go.
How to evolve Onix into Steelix in Pokémon Go
To evolve an Onix into Steelix in Pokémon Go, you need to do a few things. The first thing you need is a lot of Candy. Much like any other evolution in Pokémon Go, you need the right kind of Candies. To evolve Onix into Steelix, you need to amass 50 Onix Candy to do so. So keep going out and catching Onix, and then transferring them, to earn enough Candies. Once you have 50 Candies, that’s step one complete. Now you need the Metal Coat.
The Metal Coat is an item in the main games that’s used for Steel-type evolutions, and it has the same purpose here. You will have to put in some work to find it. Go out and spin Pokéstops to get it. Metal Coats are most easily obtained by spinning a Pokéstop seven days in a row. Every seven days, you always get an evolution item, although it’s never a guaranteed spawn. Once you have one, you need to save it for that Onix you plan to evolve.
Unfortunately, there is no guaranteed way to get a Metal Coat, as you have to rely on RNG to get lucky. Once you have the Coat and Candies though, you’re good to go. Onix is boosted by Partly Cloudy and Sunny weather, so try hunting during those times if you’re having trouble.
