When you need to get Carpentry up in PZ, this item becomes very important. You also need a key element to get various cooking things going. Without a lighter, you need to have another way to start a fire. That’s where the planks come in. Not only are they good fuel, but if you drill planks in Project Zomboid, you can make a fire board. Here’s everything you need to know about this crafting recipe, and what you can use it for.
A notched wooden plank, also known as a fire board or hearth board, is a wooden plank that has one or more holes drilled into it. You woul use it in tandem with a campfire if you don’t have matches or a lighter to ignite a fire. You also need a sturdy stick on hand to do this.
Right-clicking the campfire and selecting “Light Fire” > “Notched Wooden Plank + Sturdy Stick” will cause the player to attempt to light the fire, although there is a chance that they will fail, breaking/destroying the sturdy stick.
In order to drill planks in Project Zomboid you will need two things: A wooden plank and a tool to create a hole in the plank. You can use many different options with the log or plank. You can use the following items to notch the boards:
- Bread Knife
- Butter Knife
- Kitchen Knife
- Stone Knife
- Hunting Knife
- Chipped Stone
If you forget, just search Drill Plank in the crafting menu under the General tab to find the recipe again. That way, you will always have it on hand.
Once you have your fire lit, you’re ready to cook and dispose of corpses. You might also want to try sanitizing used bandages, as you will need them.
