The Diá de Muertos 2021 celebration has arrived for Pokémon Go. This monthly event is special to this time of year. As we head into the holiday season off of Halloween, things tend to get a lot more festive. This challenge pulls in influences from the primarily Mexican holiday, where a celebration of life and the memories of loved ones began. The actual holiday runs the first week in November each year, and so Niantic wants to inject a bit of their own fun. The Diá de Muertos Collection Challenge will be that fun.
Much of this ties into the upcoming November 2021 Pokémon Spotlight Hour events, so be sure to be around for those as well.
Given that we’re looking at a mix of fall and spooky themes for the Diá de Muertos Collection Challenge, there are some very interesting Pokémon spawns happening. The event takes a bunch of different types and throws them together, boosting the spawn rate of them all. Here are the current roster entries you can expect to spawn a lot:
- Cubone
- Drifloon
- Houndour
- Murkrow
- Roselia
- Sableye
- Sunflora
- Sunkern
Shiny spawns will also be a thing during the various phases of the event. The shiny spawns are broken up into two groups. Some of the wild spawns for the event have a boosted shiny rate, meaning they’re not so hard to find. A few other regional variants like Alolan Marowak have boosted spawns for Shiny variants as well.

The Diá de Muertos Collection Challenge will also see some special Shiny conditions as well, as is customary with these Niantic events. These spawns will be mostly generic boosted chances for Shiny versions to appear. You can encounter these anywhere. The listing below also denotes any Encounters of Shiny Pokémon that can spawn from finishing the special Field Research Tasks for the event.
