How to change your work outfit in The Sims 4 (2023)

Maxis The Sims

The Sims 4 is the best and most feature-complete option in the franchise so far. Players have a wealth of mods, expansions and more to mess around with. The amount of building and character customization options in the game is staggering these days, and players love to mess around with their outfits as they live out the digital lives of their sims. In this digital world, look is everything, and a lot of gamers obsess over the aesthetic that their sims have. And that’s not just about what dress you wear to a party, but how you carry yourself professionally. Yes really, the outfit you wear to work matters. OK, not all that much, but having a cool sense of style while working can help aid in the immersion of many gamers. If you want to roleplay as a mad scientist, you need to look that part.

By default, the game assigns a randomized work outfit based on your career path, and it remains the same as long as you have that career. The issue is, some of the work outfits in The Sims 4 are less than desirable, and players want a change. Normally, you need to change careers to do this, but there’s a workaround that some players might not know about. This guide will lay down the law on the process of changing your work outfit quickly and easily. This will assume you know how to use cheats, but if you don’t we’ve got that covered as well. Keep reading to learn how to change your work outfit in The Sims 4. This is a bit of a complex process, so pay attention.

Getting New Threads

To first change your work outfit, you need to use the in-game console to turn cheats on. To use the work outfit cheat, you must first enable cheats in your game. To do so, bring up the console, here’s how on each platform.

  • PC Users: CTRL + Shift + C
  • Mac Users: Command + Shift + C
  • Console Users: All four controller Triggers (Ex. LT+RT+LB+RB)

Once that button sequence is pressed, you should see the console come up on your screen. Next, type: testingcheats on

You will then need to use the console to obtain your sim’s unique ID. Click console and type the following command:

sims.get_sim_id_by_name (full name of your sim)

This will supply you with the unique ID you need for your next step. Now, jot down the sim ID somewhere and save it for later. You will need to use the console once again, entering the following cheat, and including your Sim ID:

sims.modify_career_outfit_in_cas {SimID}

Once you input that code, you will see the create-a-sim menu pop up, and you will be able to tweak that character’s work outfit in The Sims 4.

That’s not the only thing you can change in this game, obviously, and you don’t need cheats for all the options either. You can also swap your sexual orientation if that’s something you feel a sim needs to do. There are tons of other things to do in Sims 4, especially when it comes to your digital job. You can do pretty much anything and make money in this game. One path to success is to become a songwriter. The developers have also been amazing about introducing tons of new content over the years since launch. The new Paranormal expansion also adds a bunch of new content. There are seances and other spooky things to explore. The game even gives players crazy ghosts, like Bonehilda, to mess around with. Just be careful.
