How to catch the rainbow stag in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Of all the different bugs in the popular new Switch title, the rainbow stag in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is probably one of the more interesting. It’s a very beautiful creature with quite unique visuals. If you’re into collecting bugs in the new Animal Crossing, here’s one more to hunt. And just like any other bug, it has very specific restrictions for when it spawns.

The rainbow stag in Animal Crossing: New Horizons appears from December to March in the Southern hemisphere, with those in the north being able to catch it from June to September. The next step is knowing what time the bug comes out. You can only find a rainbow stag during the hours of 8:00pm to 5:00am, which means you will have to take an adventure out into your island overnight to have a chance at getting the rainbow stag in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Mystery Tours can also be used to find various bugs in ACNH.

Just like any other bug, it can be in a few different places. The rainbow stag beetle will spawn on any island provided you go during the right time. Start by clearing off any fruit from various trees around your island. Head around the island looking for any beetles. You will find various bugs on many different flowers, or just crawling on the ground. The most common spot to see bugs though is on tree trunks. You will always find the rainbow stag on these trunks.

When you find one, slowly advance on it with your net out, moving in as it flutters its wings in sync. You will get the rhythm for how to move when hunting bugs over time, it’s pretty easy. Just move in and capture it when you get the chance.

You can sell it to Timmy and Tommy at Nook’s Cranny for 10,000 bells or to Flick for 15,000 bells. This makes it a pretty nice way to casually make Bells as you adventure through islands in the game.
