How to Catch Skrelp in Pokémon Go

Skrelp and Clauncher have been added to Pokémon Go. These new additions draw from the real-world aquatic life on the planet Earth. With humanity’s limited understanding of life on the pale blue dot, there could be many monsters, horrors and beauties unseen. But instead of waxing poetically about the mysteries of life, let’s get back to gaming. The new events being added to the mobile game have made it so Niantic has let players catch another addition to their growing Pokédex. Here’s how to catch Skrelp in Pokémon Go.

Like many aquatic Water-type Pokémon, Skrelp in Pokémon Go will spawn normally via bodies of water. Sometimes, Niantic will also push out boosted spawns with special events on some days. For example, as part of the Rivals’ Week event, both Skrelp and Clauncher will show up in-game. And since they have been added as permanent additions to the PokéDex, you can get them at any time, provided you fulfill the spawn requirements.

If you don’t live near a body of water, there are a couple of other ways to possibly get this party member. You can try completing weekly or other timed events for a start. The more Research Tasks and other quests you complete, the more likely you are to get special spawns and encounters. And speaking of events, the Rivals Week has a special condition that’s relevant.

Complete any Raid, regardless of difficulty, and Skrelp or Clauncher can immediately spawn as a catchable encounter. There are also Skrelp raids that can trigger as well. Check the Raids tab in-game to find what’s active in your area. Rivals’ Week ends on Sunday, April 18th, during this time the game will have raids for both of the new additions.
