How to find and catch an Oarfish in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a bunch of different fish and other interesting stuff to catch. There’s bugs and fish aplenty on your idyllic little islands and many of them are worth a fair few Bells. You can sell these fish and bugs at the shop for easy cash, or even craft some of them into decorations. There are tons of reasons to get Bells, since you always need to be buying new decorations and tools to keep building your island and making your citizens happy. One

The basics of catching the Coelacanth in Animal Crossing: New Horizons rely on one bit of randomness that makes the whole process of hunting it down very tedious. You will only find the Coelacanth in the seas around your island when it’s raining out. And since the rain is seemingly entirely random, it could take some time before you even have a shot at catching this massive prize. It is one of the biggest fish in the Switch game, so look for the biggest shadows during the rain for the best chance.

And yes, some Fish Bait will do wonders when trying to catch this fish.

How to get Fish Bait

Fish Bait in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is something that will eventually become a necessity at some point in the game. Whether you’re out farming for fish or digging for Fossils, you’re going to eventually come across what you need to get the Fish Bait. This bait will make it easier to catch to Oarfish, as well as other needed resources.

To get Fish Bait, you will first need to find a Manila Clam. When out fishing or otherwise on the beach of your island, be on the lookout for a small shadow in the sand. When you see one, run over and dig it with the Shovel, this will yield the Manila Clam. The recipe for Fish Bait should be unlocked at this point via the Workbench, head over and craft some.
