How to barricade windows in Project Zomboid

Project Zomboid

Because of how important skills and progression are in Project Zomboid, it’s important to know how to improve your character. The zombie-filled environs are pretty dangerous, so you don’t want to get caught unprepared. You need to have weapons and a safe place to retreat to, at a minimum. That means you’re going to need tools and materials. Being able to slow down the tide of the undead is very important.

That’s where barricades come in. Players get pretty creative when it comes to making barricades and funnels. Being able to control where zombies come from is pretty important. And since you’re going to spend a lot of time indoors, having barricades on any occupied buildings is important. When you need to barricade windows in Project Zomboid, you need one of two methods.

Planks or Metal Sheets are the two options you have. Planks are much easier to mass-produce, and only use a hammer and nails to barricade windows and doors. Metal sheets are more resistant to attack, but require a propane torch to be installed. It’s up to you what you want to use to slow down invaders.

To barricade windows in Project Zomboid, choose your preferred method and then gather the tools. Once you have the items in your inventory, you can simply right-click a window or door and barricade it. It’s best to do this from the outside if possible.

Planks can be kind of hard to come by. Most players will only find a few finished planks in their time in the game. Disassembling furniture from houses is a good source in the early game. But eventually, you will need more planks from other sources. The better option is to use logs, once you’ve cut them down. Trees can be felled with an axe, then you must use a saw to cut the log into planks. This will take a lot of time, so it’s beast to clear the area of zombies first, then get to work.

You can also help funnel the undead toward prepared defenses. Cars make a great and easy barricade when you don’t have the skills and supplies for full walls. Make a ring of cars parked end-to-end, and you’ve just created a curtain wall around your base. Just make sure not to block yourself in with too many barricades, you need an escape route.

You might want to consider raiding garages, gas stations and other car-centric locations for tools, metal and other materials before embarking with a barricade plan.
