How to add gem sockets in New World to armor and weapons

How to get fish filets in New World

Gems are an excellent way to modify your gear in New World. Gem Sockets can be used to alter the base stats and bonuses of a given weapon or armor piece. These are some of the best gear upgrade options in the game. If you have an armor slot with a free gem slot, you can make instant use of that slot. But if you have an item without any sockets, you can add some to it. There’s a process to this, and we’re going to go over that now in this guide.

How to get gems in New World

Gems are crafted at a Stonecutting table, but you’ll need to acquire the raw materials first. For starters, let’s talk about how to use Gems. The basis of the process is to take Raw Gems from mining nodes and cut them. Gather Raw Gems and cut them at the Stonecutting Table to get Gemstones. You can then refine these into Cut Gemstones in four varieties. Each tier of Cut Gem has a certain amount of damage conversion. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Flawed Cut – 20% damage conversion
  • Regular Cut – 30% damage conversion
  • Brilliant Cut – 40% damage conversion
  • Pristine Cut – 50% damage conversion

So what damage is converted, it’s ver simple. Each basic type of gem has two stats to worry about with damage. The Cut converts more damage, and the base gem type confers the damage type, as well as the scaling stat. The basic idea is that the higher the scaling stat on your character, the more DPS you have. Use the list below to figure out what Gems can convert what type of damage.

  • Topaz – Lighting Damage scales off INT
  • Amethyst – Void Damage scales off INT
  • Sapphire – Arcane Damage scales off INT
  • Amber – Nature Damage scales off FOCUS
  • Aquamarine – Ice Damage scales off INT
  • Ruby – Fire Damage scales off INT

If an item doesn’t have slots, you can use a Crafting Table to add sockets to it using a Gem Setting Pin.

Where to get Gem Setting Pins in New World

You’ll be able to purchase a Gem Setting Pin from any of the faction recruiters for your faction. These are located in any major settlement within any game region. You need to get to level 40 in character level, as well as rank 3 with the faction, to gain access to these vendors. You can then buy Gem Setting Pins for 300 faction reputation and 100 gold pieces.

Once you have a good supply of Gem Setting Pins, it’s time to use them to apply new sockets and Gems. Just head to a Crafting Station and you will find the option add a new socket to an item under the crafting menu.

Once you have an open socket, now just simply drag and drop into the socket to apply the bonus. You can view the bonuses gems give by viewing them under the Stonecutter and hovering over them.

If you don’t want to waste all that time gathering. But if you’re trying to speed things up, we have a few ways to help. If you want a fast way to find any resource, use the New World map that the community has put together. If you’re hunting for Motes, we have a guide on that too. There’s also a guide for finding WyrdWood if you’re having trouble there. If you’re having trouble carrying all this, try expanding your inventory space. You might want to hunt down other food items like fish filets, they’re super useful. If you need some healing help, you might want to find some Weak Healing Potions, or maybe something better.

There’s a bunch more stuff to learn about the basics of this MMO. You might also want to learn how to respec your build. There are also tons of materials you can gather and craft. There’s a lot of basic stuff like Rawhide and various basic ingredients that you need a lot of. Rarer materials like Steel and Starmetal are useful as well.
