How to add friends in Pokémon Unite

Pokémon Unite Guides

When you want to game together on modern consoles, you use the friends list. Nintendo has added this feature to the Switch via Nintendo Online, and it’s pretty great. When you’ve added a friend on NSO, you can go about playing with them and also see what games they’re playing. And if you want to add new folks, you can do that too. The hot new Switch title, Pokémon Unite, makes it very easy. When you want to add friends in Pokémon Unite, here’s what to do.

How to add friends in Pokémon Unite

For some reason, Nintendo and the developers of this new MOBA didn’t think to add NSO friends lists directly into the game. Sure, you don’t have to mess with those absurdly long friend IDs, but you have to re-add any friends you already have in Pokémon Unite. Kind of a weird oversight, but maybe there’s a technical reason for it. Anyway, here’s what to do.

To begin, on the Pokémon Unite main screen, press X to bring up the menu. You then need to navigate to the Friends tab. When you get there, there’s an option to search for your friends. You need to put in the in-game name of a player and add them as a friend via request. When you select their tag, click the option to send them a request. You can also go back to this menu to look at your incoming requests if you press the + button.

You can also press the Minus button to add someone from your existing NSO list to your list in Unite. Any friends you add need to be online and on the Switch platform for you to add them in this manner.

That’s not the only thing you can do in the game though. When you do game with your pals, you’re thrown into a very intense 5v5 competition. You can certainly drop out if things are feeling too overwhelming. You can drop out of a match at any time. If you find yourself getting overwhelmed by the incessant voice chat, consider turning off voice chat in Pokémon Unite. Also, make sure to grab that free Zeroara while you still can.
