Hero Points in Guild Wars 2 Guide

Hero Points in Guild Wars 2 Guide

You will use the Hero Points in Guild Wars 2 to get skills and abilities that complement how you build a character when leveling up. The base stat boosts are one thing, but the HP system is extremely important. The Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire regions have nearly 700 of these to be earned. it is possible to unlock all core skills and traits in the game if you get enough of them together. You will need a couple thousand of these to that though. But anyway, to get a decent build, you are going to have to use Hero Points. Here are some of the best ways to get them.

Hero Challenges

Hero Challenges are one of the primary ways you can get more of them. Completing a hero challenge in Central Tyria grants a single hero point. Completing a hero challenge in the Heart of Maguuma or Crystal Desert grants ten. Each Hero Challenge has a few different possible types. You can encounter a few different types, these are:

  • Direct combat — defeat a single foe in 1v1 combat
  • Horde combat — Defeat a wave of enemies, varied by the region you’re in, and several stronger and weaker foes. You will fight a veteran (in Central Tyria and the Crystal Desert) or champion (in the Heart of Maguuma).
  • Item challenges — Solve a simple puzzle by finding and using an item. Meant to be a simple exploration challenge.
  • Dialogue and mini-games are also common.

Places of Power are also a good source of these Hero Points in Guild Wars 2. Interacting with these golden pillars of light (called communing) will grant some points for each one. Each region of the game will have a few of them in various places. The golden light pillars are pretty easy to spot, so it’s not too hard to find them. You can also find a full guide showing each location of the places of power shown on the wiki.

HP Training

The easiest way to get Hero Points in Guild Wars 2 is, by far, participating in HP Trains. Head into the Contacts and LFG panel and open the Looking for Group screen. You will want to use this to look for any groups that are running “HP Train” in the description. The HP Trains are a quirk of the community that makes the task of getting stronger pretty easy to obtain if you have a good group.

The basic premise is that you will run through an area with a group and pick up all the hero points in that area. These groups often run most often during primetime play and weekends when most players are online. Rather than hunting Hero Challenges and Places of Power on your own, use these groups to speed things up.

World vs. World

World vs. World play is another option, particularly if you don’t have any access to the expansions. Your goal here is to obtain Proofs of Heroics items be completing the various quests and events in WvW to get them. When you start getting the Proofs, you will need to trade them in at WvW reward merchants for Notarized Scrolls of Heroics and Notarized Scrolls of Maguuma Heroics. These are the sources of Hero Points. These are sold at the Heroics Notary in various areas.

Using one of these will get you one random Heroic Challenge Point from the related region. Consuming one of these scrolls when all applicable challenges have already been completed will instead credit 10 Proof of Heroics directly into your wallet.
