Here are all the next-gen changes in Fortnite

Fortnite 2.88 Update Patch Notes

The launch of Fortnite, and its meteoric growth over the years, has cemented its place in the games industry. And now the game is coming to the new Xbox and PlayStation consoles. As detailed in a post on the official Fortnite website, the next-gen changes in Fortnite for the new consoles are plenty and varied. There will be features that work with both console families, but the PS5 will also have their own features as well.

Crossplay is still going into all variants of the game, so don’t worry about that. And if you decide to jump ship to a new console, as long as you’re in the same brand, you can easily transfer your progress and cosmetics over. So if you’re moving from Xbox One to Xbox Series X, you can move over pretty easily. And as another special bonus, Epic is going out a free Throwback Axe Pickaxe from Fortnite Chapter 1.

All PS5 and Xbox Series X/S Features in Fortnite

There will obviously be some features that are common across both the next-gen versions of the game. Each of the versions across the three variants will largely feature the same baseline experience. Players will be able to experience a much more stable and consistent game with boosted visual quality.

  • 4K resolution will run at 60 FPS and will be optional for PS5 and Xbox Series X. Xbox Series S supports a 1080p resolution at 60 FPS.
  • The game’s visuals will be boosted in terms of quality to improve the visual fidelity of things like flora, explosions and environmental effects as well. Other elements like smoke and liquid effects will be brought to these versions as well.
  • Loading times are improved to speed up matchmaking and game start-up speeds.
  • Split Screen functionality can support 60 FPS,

PS5 Exclusive Features

  • The DualSense’s haptic feedback feature will give you a force feedback function for the game on the PS5.
  • The PS5 activities social menu will integrate with the game and the shortcuts for the menu will allow you to share accomplishments and quick-join games.

Fortnite‘s next-gen versions will be available to download from November 10 on Xbox Series X|S and on November 12 and November 19 on the PlayStation 5. That Fortnite release for PS5 will vary by region.
