The Last Campfire is the newest game from Hello Games, yes that one. The indie company is focusing fully on their latest project, opting for an entirely different feel to their previously released efforts. The game was first revealed in a teaser in 2018 at The Game Awards, with a very different tone to previous games from the company. The new title is a new adventure that has it’s feet firmly planted on terra firma.
Many remember the Hello Games brand for some pretty poor reasons. The launch of No Man’s Sky was a masterclass in how not to let hype dictate your marketing. The buggy and over-promised gameplay features felt incomplete and overhyped to many gamers, leading to a torrent of backlash against the game and the developer. Over time, Hello Games has made many different improvements to No Man’s Sky.
A variety of new expansions that brought some new gameplay elements and fixed bugs were a huge push for the game. The recent addition of the Living Ships and Quicksilver missions offered one of many new different gameplay pathways for those exploring the galaxy.
We still don’t have a release date for The Last Campfire, but we do know it will be coming out this year. Hello Games seems pretty excited about the change in direction and tone and is focusing hardcore on their newest game.
“Hello Games was born out of a close-knit team of four friends working together to create our first game, Joe Danger,” said Hello Games leader Sean Murray. “We are still a very small studio, and while No Man’s Sky takes up a large slice of our bandwidth, we want to nurture creative new ideas from small teams. We are excited for The Last Campfire, and what this team builds next.”
The new game is due out this year, with The Last Campfire coming out for PC, Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in later 2020. If you want to take a deeper look at the new video game, check out the trailer below for The Last Campfire.
