Halo Infinite coatings can be earned via gameplay too

Halo Infinite being split into parts is possible

Halo Infinite coatings are the name for skins in the new shooter. And even though the delay of the game to 2021 still hangs over the heads of fan, that hasn’t stopped 343 Industries from talking about the game. Halo Infinite coatings will be unlockable through gameplay as well as paid purchases. The new shooter will have microtransactions, but the whole thing will be a little more accessible.

The inclusion of paid microtransactions being in the shooter has soured some fan expectations. Skins in the Halo franchise aren’t a bad idea, given that armor customization has been a thing for years, but fans don’t want to have to pay for the prospect. But given what nonsense AAA games are in 2020, it looks like the easy path will be based on a credit card.

When asked about the prospect of paid-only skins, the developer had something to say. “Will there be purchases? Sure. Is that the only way? Absolutely not,” said 343 Industries community manager John Junyszek.

Fans were quick to as if there would be some premium-only items, and it looks like plenty of stuff will be earnable through gameplay. “There will be all kinds customization items (including coatings) that can be earned in-game and earned as special rewards,” he said on Twitter.

Obviously, this is not the best way. It would be great if we could go back to the Halo 3 days where everything was locked to gameplay challenges. LASO runs will likely be a thing here, with some unique items locked behind them. But because of ballooning AAA budgets and the tenor of the industry, this is what we’re stuck with.

That “was a tough call, it has allowed us to go into greater detail and variation with armor color, materials, patterns, etc. You are going to look great in Halo Infinite,” he added.
