In a tweet today, Valve finally confirmed the date everyone has been waiting for. Valve has been teasing Half-Life news for years, and sure, Half-Life: Alyx isn’t the Half-Life 3 we were all waiting for, but at least it’s something new. With a very simple announcement, the gaming giant has finally revealed the release date for Half-Life: Alyx. Valve previously said that the game would be available sometime in March, and that’s now been confirmed. Check out the announcement tweet down below for the full date.
The new VR title was first announced in November 2019, setting off a firestorm of hype and speculation. The fans originally thought it would be exclusive to only one VR platform, like the Valve Index, but Valve wisely made those rumors false by announcing a wide release. The $59.99 price tag was a bit of a sting though, although there was one bright spot. if you bought Valve’s in-house VR setup, the Index, you would get this new game for free.
Half-Life: Alyx is the first game from the series in more than a decade. Fans were so looking forward to this surprise reveal that it caused the Valve Index VR gear to sell out almost immediately. And that’s a good thing too because it all but confirms just what Valve wanted to hear, that people want more Half-Life games. Valve has even said that they could make more franchise titles that explore new stories if this entry does well enough.
Half-Life: Alyx will release onto PC via Steam on March 23rd.
