GWENT releases Merchants of Ofir expansion

So a surprising bit of news this Monday morning out of CD Projekt Red. CD Projekt RED has just released the latest addition to its spin-off from The Witcher card game Gwent, with the new Merchants of Ofir expansion. As with all the previous expansions, there’s new meta-game implications. Seventy new cards have arrived, introducing new combinations and builds to Gwent for players to muck with. The biggest new addition in this area is the Strategems, which offer new flair to matches.

Stratagems are picked when building an army, and each combination has unique bonuses associated with it. They can buff individual units, like Enchanted Armor which gives +3 to a unit in your hand. Another, the Mask of Uroboros, will allow a player to draw one card, then discard one card. Keep in mind that these bonuses activate for the first turn, so consider that when planning your decks.

New Scenarios have been introduced as well, joining the new cards. Players can take part in Nilfgaard’s Masked Ball, Nothern Realm’s Siege, Skellige’s Gedyneith, Monster’s Haunt, and Syndicate’s Passiflora. These specialized quests feature set encounters that can alter the flow of matches if you’re successful. Each one is tied to specific in-game faction and has unique triggers, so start exploring to uncover them all.

If you’re into paying to support the game, CD Projekt RED is also offering a Ofiri Bargain Pack for purchase. This bundle comes with 10 Merchants of Ofir premium kegs, a Premium card back and a Wraith Leader Skin for the Monsters faction for £19.39. If you want to try out the new Strategems, there’s also a a Caravan Raid pack that includes 12 of them in one bundle.

The new expansion is live now in the PC and iOS versions of Gwent. Check out the new Merchants of Ofir expansion in the trailer below.

Gwent hasn’t had an entirely rosy week though. And even though some fans are excited about this new content, some fans are disappointed. CD Projekt Red announced over the last week that they would be discontinuing support for the console versions of the card game. Don’t worry, the developer will offer a transfer system to migrate console saves over to the PC for those that want it. There is one catch though, the PC destination GOG account must be an account with no Gwent data already attached. Basically you won’t be able to overwrite PC progress with console data.
