Exotic Ciphers in Destiny 2 are another new currency added within the expansion. These are single-use items that can be rolled to get older Exotic weapons and gear that you haven’t gotten yet. As of now, these are kind of hard to get, as there are only two ways to get them. These items are pretty useful though if you’re the type of player to collect old weapons.
The only ways to get Exotic Ciphers in Destiny 2 are from the Season Pass and from Xur’s weekly quest. This means that you’re kind of stuck to farming for it pretty casually. Since there are only so many unlocks for it within the Season Pass, and Xur quests are limited, so things will take time. You can only hold one at a time, however, so you need to run the quest from Xur each way and then redeem it ASAP.
What to do with Exotic Ciphers
When you finally get some of these things, you will want to know what to do with them. Here’s how to get the rare items contained within. The simple answer is, that you take them to the Monument of Lost Light. This is how you get items you missed as you exchange one Exotic Cipher for an Exotic item from previous seasons. Any Exotic quest reward from previous content can be collected in this manner.
This all makes it a very good way to get around the content vault that happened this year. The grind involved kind of sucks, but things are the way they are. The volume of potential drops also means that you may not get the weapons you want. So keeping that in mind, you might want to focus on going for as many rolls as you can get.
