Gran Turismo 7 pushed back to 2022 due to COVID

Gran Turismo 7 pushed back to 2022

Gran Turismo 7 has been delayed, and it likely won’t be the last we hear about Sony projects getting delayed this year. As we can all pretty much guess this year, there’s one major reason the racing sequel was delayed. Gran Turismo 7 has been pushed back as the team grapples with the difficulty of working from home. The game had an initial release date of 2021 last year, but that’s obviously not happening.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this with the franchise. The Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo Sport both suffered major and repeated delays during their own time in the pipeline. The reasoning this time around wasn’t elaborated on, but it’s pretty clearly COVID-19 related. “GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022,” a Sony spokesman told British GQ in an interview with PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan.

The new game will be a complete revival of the series. Speaking to GTplanet, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi dispelled the next entry “will be a combination of the past, present, and future — a complete form of Gran Turismo.” That all means that fans will get to see much of what made the franchise great, but with much more than a new fresh coat of paint.

By combining with the PS5’s DualSense controller gamers will get a much more intense feel of the driving this time around. The much more realistic driving will be getting a ton of power to the wheels in this new game. But aside from the more intense racing, there’s a ton of new gameplay depth. A big part of the gameplay experience will be the new GT Town hub. Players will race around a world map complete with various events. It’s not a fully open-world game, but it does have a lot more player input and choice at hand compared to the older games.
