Gothic Remake set to enter full production

Gothic Remake

The subject of a Gothic Remake was pretty exciting for fans of the legendary RPG property. It had been some time since anything concerning the franchise had been said until THQ Nordic revealed that they had been working on a playable demo. The demo had immediately blown up in popularity, having been played by some 200,000 people according to some reports. So the company asked the fans what they wanted, and the response has been pretty clear, fans want Gothic Remake.

It seems like the idea was pretty popular, as fans overwhelmingly voted in favour of a full remake of the classic game. “The vast majority (read: 94.8%) are in favour of developing a remake of the iconic German RPG Gothic, originally released in 2001,” says a press release from the publisher. Based on this feedback, it’s all systems go. The game has now entered full production at a new studio based in Barcelona, Spain, but it’s still very early stages.

Going into further detail, the team knows it will be a challenge to live up to the legacy of Gothic. “We are up for the challenge to develop a full Gothic Remake, which will stay as faithfully as possible to the original experience and transport the atmospheric world of Gothic into a high-quality look and carefully modernizing certain gameplay mechanics,” said Reinhard Pollice Business and Product Development Director at the publisher.

As for when and where to expect the Gothic Remake, it’s not quite clear yet. The developers are aiming for a release on PC as well as PS5 and Xbox Series X, so expect that much. As to when Gothic Remake could come out, it won’t be until 2021 at the earliest.
