Gone Home moves to Nintendo Switch next week

Gone Home Switch Release

Gone Home, the deceptively simple game that defined the “walking simulator” genre, is headed for a new platform next week. On August 23, the independent devs over at The Fullbright Company are bringing the excellent storytelling and emotional rollercoaster to the Nintendo Switch.

In the more than five years since it’s initial PC release, Gone Home has earned a cult following and tons of critical praise for the way in which the game artfully tackled tough subject matter and an emotional story. Gone Home follows a girl named Katie who returns home after being overseas, only to find that no one’s home. Players must then trek through the house to search for clues as to what happened. The story itself centers on the struggles faced by Katie’s sister Samantha, and the subsequent problems faced by the family. It’s an incredible game that you should try out if you’re somehow missed it.

Even if the gameplay itself is relatively simple, Gone Home more than makes up for it with a wonderful, but at times somber, story about discovering who you really are, and the journey to acceptance that people often face when things don’t always line up with expectations. Like I said, it’s a good game.

And given it’s fairly short length and simple mechanics, it’s a perfect fit for Switch gamers on the go. You could probably finish a full run of the game in a long car ride for example.
