So as is the tradition with a new patch in Path of Exile, Grinding Gear Games has unleashed a new set of microtransactions onto the cash shop in the form of a new Mystery Box. Mystery Boxes in POE are a bit of a special thing, as they’re basically loot boxes that often contain special cosmetic items that can only be obtained through said loot box mechanics. GGG will sometimes run a special sale where they bring back old Mystery Boxes or their contained cosmetics, but that’s very rare.
This new loot box contains two new microtransaction sets as the main draw, as well as a smattering of themed items. The central them of the new Frontier Mystery Boxes is an aesthetic pulled right out of the old west. This includes the Indigenous-styled Wild set and the 19th-century cowboy/inventor Wrangler set.
One feature that may excite bargain hunters is the ability to combine duplicate items obtained from Mystery Boxes. You lose the original two items combined, but combining duplicate items (when possible) results in a single recolored version of said item.
