Frostpunk has just announced a new set of DLC coming to the PC version, with The Last Autumn, coming next year. The base game and previous Frostpunk DLC have explored what happens to a Steampunk Victorian England after the world has seemingly frozen solid. The desperate struggle for warmth and survival is a dark and conscious commentary on class and inequality, all wrapped into a rather impressive city-builder game. Now we’re taking a look into the time before the main game, with the new DLC.
Given that it’s a new story element, players can expect to see some new content relating to how things went so wrong. There are hints that players will learn that we will learn what the genesis of this frozen apocalypse. So whether or not that’s true, we will have to wait and see. It has been confirmed that the DLC will have scenarios set in those chilling last few days of the British Empire, before it all went to hell. The Last Autumn is a new take on the steampunk city-builder, offering new gameplay elements as well. Expect new random events, characters and buildings to make use of in your cities.
The Last Autumn is included as part of the next DLC season pass. Players will also be able to grab it as a standalone package independent of the season pass if that’s not your thing.
Check out the trailer for the new expansion down below. The Last Autumn will debut via Steam, GOG.com, and the Humble Store on Jan. 21. A console launch date is yet to be announced.
Kuba Stokalski, Frostpunk’s lead designer, said of today’s news:
“We’re really excited to show our latest work to the community. The Last Autumn will debut a month later than originally planned, but we firmly believe that it will be worth the wait since it’s one of the most amazing things we did with Frostpunk so far. And the story doesn’t end here. The third DLC is coming so 2020 will be a big year for Frostpunk.”
