The first sales numbers from 2018 show Capcom’s Monster Hunter World and Dragon Ball FighterZ, both games releasing on January 26, are the best selling games of the month by a pretty wide margin.
The two Japanese titles were strong contenders to come out on top, as they were the most significant retail releases thus far in 2018. Dragon Ball FighterZ is now the best-selling Dragon Ball game in more than a decade, surpassing the original Dragon Ball Budokai for the PS2 all the way back in 2002. Monster Hunter World was the best selling title overall, with not only topping the sales rankings for both console releases, it also managed to be the best-selling game in western markets. I’m pretty sure Capcom is going to have an amazing year off the back of it’s success.
In other news, Kingdom Come: Deliverance has managed to surpass one million units sold. Another surprise is that GTA V is still holding strong after all these years. Now it remains to be seen what that mysterious Premium Edition is all about.
Here’s the list of the top 20 games for the month of January.

Titles with an asterisk do not count digital sales. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds does not count digital sales on PC.
Readers should also be aware that Steam, Origin and other digital sales numbers are not fully counted in these tallies.
Something that’s a bit surprising is that many of the popular titles from 2017, such as Call of Duty: WWII and Assassin’s Creed Origins, are still hanging around. The big hitters of the publishing industry like Microsoft are well-positioned overall. PUBG has been a monster hit in terms of sales for the company.
Switch and PS4 are the current leaders in terms of hardware sales. Switch sold the most units, the PlayStation 4 generated the most revenue. And even though Xbox as a platform came in third, it was only three percent behind Sony in terms of revenue.
Much like December, the 3DS had one of its best month-aligned sales records, having its best January in terms of dollar amount since January 2014, and best in terms of unit sales since January 2013.
