Everything you need to know about The Witcher: Monster Slayer

The Witcher: Monster Slayer

CD PROJEKT RED has revealed The Witcher: Monster Slayer, an Augmented Reality game that they are working on for Android and iOS devices. Spokko, a subsidiary of CD PROJEKT RED, will be handling the development duties on this new game. Here is all you need to know about The Witcher: Monster Slayer. The company has already released a short teaser trailer, which can be seen below.

When will the game release?

As of now, Spokko hasn’t revealed the release date for the game, although some sources are speculating that it will land in 2021.

Will it be free-to-play?

Yes, the game will be available to download for free on Google Play Store and App Store. There’s a very strong chance that the game will have in-app purchases, it’s all but guaranteed. Although the type of purchases has not been revealed yet.

What will the gameplay be like?

The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a role-playing game, although it predominantly revolves around hunting down monsters. Using the AR features to spot monsters out in the real world, players will hunt and slay various beasts from the canon of the books and games.

Gameplay has already been released, possibly of an early build. This gameplay, which can be seen below, reveals the basic premise of hunting monsters and doing battle with them. Just like the full Witcher games, players will get access to various weapons, skills and magic to aid them in their hunts. Players will use weapons and skills to weaken their foes, while also healing their own wounds with potions and the like. In basic terms, it’s Pokémon GO with a more active battle system.

There will also be a more story-driven element to the game. The AR elements will tie-in with quests you get during the game and as you explore, tasking you to find rare items or hunt down specific monsters. It’s expected that the game could also feature in-game events to celebrate iconic characters or events related to the franchise. There’s a pretty solid chance of some tie-in events that reward people for playing the mainline games as well.

These details are all still very murky though. There has been only a little bit said about the game by the developers, and most reports outside of the official announcement are still based on assumptions. As we get closer to release, expect to hear more.
