Epic Games Store has integrated with GOG Galaxy

GOG Galaxy 2.0 Announced

If you’re like most PC gamers, you have multiple different game launchers on your PC. Steam, GOG Galaxy, Epic Games Store, Uplay, Rockstar Launcher, the list goes on. But in a bit of good news, the list has just technically gotten a little shorter. It turns out that Epic and CD PROJEKT have worked out a deal that can help reduce the clutter.  GOG announced an official Epic Games Store integration that will essentially combine the two launchers.

Starting now, gamers can link their Epic Games Store accounts and GOG accounts together, unifying the launcher that these two services use. Users can see all of their subscriptions in one place and browse, launch or install titles between the overall two storefronts.

When GOG Galaxy 2.0 launched as a more direct competitor to Steam late last year, it already had some strong contenders and some great games.

So the change has been pretty interesting to watch unfold. Until now, only Xbox Live and its game library could be linked to GOG Galaxy. With the inclusion of Epic Games Store, the potential for more crossover and less PC clutter expands. And it also gives the Epic Store a boost in some intriguing ways. This allows the storefront to access Friends lists, social features and a combined library that will allow them to better compete with Steam, in theory.

This will allow GOG Galaxy to share its userbase with Epic Games Store, gaining a glut of new users. And with the DRM-free games on offer there, it could be a big boon.

“We’re excited that Epic Games Store integration has come to GOG GALAXY 2.0,” said Steve Allison, General Manager of the Epic Games Store. “It’s an important step towards breaking down walls between PC stores, as it enables a unified experience for players to manage their PC games library independent of where their games were purchased.”
