KOEI Tecmo has announced a new entry in its long-running Musou games. Dynasty Warriors 9: Empires will bring the franchise onto PS5 and XSX with new graphics and revamped features. The game is set in China, but beyond that, we don’t know what’s coming in terms of setting or story. It’s likely we could see Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires making a resurgence of sorts as the moniker has been used before for a more strategic game. Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires was about building your empire in the time of the Three Kingdoms, complete with both story and RPG elements. We may see a revisit of that formula here.
Dynasty Warriors 9 was the first of the open-world games in the franchise, bringing a new experience to the franchise and adding some much-needed change. This new game spins off from that base, and will be optimized for the next generation of consoles. We know that KOEI Tecmo is bringing back features from this game as well, having said “we are incorporating a variety of strategies in the siege battles.”
The company also said that character creation options are being expanded “The facial editing will allow for more customisation compared to previous Empires games,” said the company on the idea.
The next-gen versions of the game will effectively be the same as the current-gen ones. No unique features or anything, just a graphical upgrade.
