Dreamhaven is a new studio from former Blizzard CEO

Mike Morhaime founds new studio Dreamhaven

Ex-Blizzard Entertainment CEO Mike Morhaime—who also co-founded the studio—has announced a new hybrid publisher developer, Dreamhaven. The studio already has two studios under its wing led by former Blizzard staff.

Morhaime left Blizzard in 2019 had previously stepped down from the CEO position the year prior. He will now serve as CEO of Dreamhaven, supported by Amy Morhaime and 26 other industry figures at various positions. Many of these roles have been filled by former Blizzard staff too.

“I’m excited to team up with such talented people who care deeply about games and their communities,” says Morhaime in the newest post. “I’ve always believed in the power of games to bring people together regardless of backgrounds or boundaries. With Dreamhaven, we look forward to creating and sharing new experiences with players everywhere.”

The company will have multiple subsidiary teams that work on their various projects and has already formed two studios for this: Moonshot and Secret Door. Dreamhaven will act as publisher and support development for these two studios. Moonshot is led by Jason Chayes, Dustin Browder, and Ben Thompson, both with AAA experience. Secret Door on the other hand is led by Chris Sigaty, Alan Dabiri, and Eric Dodds, who’ve been involved with various high-profile Blizzard games. It will be very interesting to see where all this experience leads.

The company has been created to both make great games and be much more inclusive and positive, something the games industry always needs more of. Their goal directly for games is “to empower creators, help bring their ideas to life, and create original gaming experiences that foster meaningful connections between players.”

“We are a group of friends with a passion for games,” says the company about page. “Together, we have launched numerous large scale games and projects. We have felt our hearts lifted by the communities that have formed around our games, and have also huddled to come up with solutions when things went wrong. And together, we have come to understand it is about the journey and not the destination. This is just the beginning. We believe the strongest teams not only have aligned values and trust, but also have diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are seeking more friends and colleagues who have seen the world through different lenses and will bring additional perspectives. Our company and the games we make will be better for it.”
