Bandai Namco revealed that upcoming anime fighter Dragon Ball FighterZ will be receiving roster additions beyond its initial release date, which has been announced as January 26, 2018 for North America.

Dragon Ball FighterZ is a 2.5D fighter from Arc System Works, the developer of the critically acclaimed BlazBlue series. It is of course based on the Dragon Ball franchise. The roster is full of recognizable characters that span the length of Dragon Ball as a franchise, so expect to see all the most recognizable characters from Yamcha to Buu. And even a brand new character designed just for FighterZ, Android 21.

Bandai Namco are releasing an “Ultimate Edition” which includes a “Commentator voice pack” and an “Anime music pack”.

The fights themselves hinge upon players picking three fighters to form a team, Marvel Vs. Capcom anyone? That team then dukes it out in some incredibly quick and frantic matches. In case you want to see some fast and furious action, here’s a gameplay video:

New story mode details were revealed. Here’s the official description on the new Link system:

But there’s even more good news, depending on your stance on Season Passes, because of course FighterZ has one too.

Following the game’s launch, players will have the option to purchase the FighterZ Pass, which grants access to a slate of DLC characters “at a discounted price.” The pass costs $35 and gives players access to eight new characters when they’re released. Bandai Namco hasn’t hinted at which characters will be included, but they’ll come alongside their respective stamps and lobby avatars.

Dragon Ball FighterZ launches on PS4, PC and Xbox One in North America on January 26, 2018. Japan will follow on Feburary 1, with a European date still to be announced.
