Dino Crisis successor announced, bringing new tone to genre

Dino Crisis successor, Instinction, announced

The adventure and shooter hybrid involving dinosaurs is a strange genre for video games. The last major releases in the vein were entries in the Turok and Dino Crisis series’. Now, a new developer on the block has something to add to the pile of talons and feathers that is dino shooters. This new game is being billed as the true spiritual successor to the 20-year-old game, in a very cool way. Instinction is a new game from the New Zealand team, Hashbane Interactive.

And despite the influences of the shooter and survival-horror genres, Instinction is a beast all its own. The developers make it very clear that they want to take the spiritual influences of Dino Crisis into a new era. The gameplay involves a somewhat open-world adventure around a prehistoric landscape loaded with powerful and dangerous creatures.  By taking tons of cues from history and science, the tone of the game is reinforced with a ton of realism.

Check out the trailer for the new game below. Hashbane is planning to release Instinction in Q3 2022, for the PC, Xbox One, Series X, PS4 and PS5.

Players will have tons of gameplay and customization options available to them. The world may be loaded with horrifying dinos, but at least you will look good as you’re ripped to bits. There will also be full mod support and other modern inclusions. As the developer put it, they wanted to make a “modern take on an age old cult classic, a dinosaur survival game with modern mechanics and a compelling story.”

Players will trek around the world, looking for new items to craft and upgrade, all while dodging hungry monsters. You will have to constantly take on quests as well that place you in the path of danger.

And judging from the trailer and the press releases for the game, Instinction will aim to make quite an immersive world. The PC version will also amp up the visual fidelity with DLSS and other advanced visual effects. The PC and top-end console versions will support tons of visual smoothness as well, up to 8K and 120 FPS, depending on the version.
