Digimon Survive Delayed to 2020
Sorry Digimon fans, but Bandai Namco has some bad news for you if you were looking forward to the release of the newest game based on the series, Digimon Survive. It turns out that Digimon Survive has been delayed until 2020, with no firm release date set. It was originally due to release later this year, but that is obviously no longer the case.
As to why this happened, it’s not entirely clear. The news broke during the “Future of Digimon” panel during Anime Expo 2019, where Producer Kazumasa Habu also revealed some new information about the game. The opening movie for the game was also revealed to those attending the panel, but it has not yet been released anywhere online.
The RPG-based gameplay will draw heavily from mythology for both mechanics and visual style. This is a bit of a departure from the tech-heavy tones of the source material. Based on what we’ve seen, Digimon Survive sounds more like a Monster Rancher title, at least in theme, than a typical Digimon battle game. Apparently, Digimon existed long before digital technology was ever introduced to humans.
The Monster Rancher influence is also felt in the gameplay, where player choices will affect how Digimon respond to certain circumstances, as well as the skill and digivolutions they develop. Players will adventure alongside their Digimon, gaining new skills through experience, which they can even take into battle.
If you want to know more about what state the game is in, Bandai Namco recently put out a developer diary about Digimon Survive, check it out below. Digimon Survive will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch some time in 2020.
