Devolver Direct 2020 is happening, no idea when

Devolver Direct 2020

The name Devolver Digital has taken on a very earned, and weird, connotation in the games industry. Known for making and supporting indie development Devolver Digital has become a sort of strange Lovecraftian beacon for nonsense in video games. But where H.P. Lovecraft has been somewhat tainted by his more egregious beliefs, Devolver Digital has managed to take on the weird and uncomfortable side of things without getting mired in idiocy.

So when it comes time to have Devolver announce new games, people get very excited. Who wouldn’t want to see more of the company that had people disemboweled via tentacles during E3 2019? Seriously, they sort of did that for the biggest show of the gaming industry. They’re weird, and people love it.

Devolver Direct 2020 is the next iteration of this digital showcase, but due to ongoing pandemic-related issues that should be obvious to anyone by this point, they can’t just show up at a public space with large crowds and start demonstrating video games. But as the social media account for the company has revealed, they are planning something.

“Devolver Direct 2020 is happening but we’re not sure when due to THESE UNCERTAIN TIMES.” Adding to that, the social media account teased, “Should be a good one though.” So while we didn’t get any concrete information about when the Devolver Direct 2020 will occur, we know it’s coming. And in the words of industry legend Reggie Fils-Aimé, my body is ready.

This tease comes off the back of the ongoing replacement for the now-canceled E3 2020, Summer Game Fest. Industry icon Geoff Keighley has teamed up with various publishers and industry insiders to bring an all-Summer-long event right to gamers. The event recently revealed the upcoming release of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 + 2 for example, and many more games are set to be shown off.
