Dead or Alive 6 goes free-to-play, offers “Core” fighters

Dead or Alive 6 Launch Trailer

Dead or Alive 6 is the latest in the long-running fighting game franchise, and even though many gamers are criticizing the over-the-top monetization policy, Koei Tecmo is offering a new version of the game that will be completely free.

Starting today, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam players can download Dead or Alive 6: Core Fighters for free in order to essentially assess a basic demo of the game to figure out if this particular fighting game is for them. This demo includes access to both the singleplayer and multiplayer content, although it’s only a portion of things like the story mode. Dead or Alive 6‘s narrative picks up immediately where Dead or Alive 5‘s story left off, in case you were wondering. So if you’re a fan of the franchise, you now have an easy way to see what’s going in this fictional world. ass, Hitomi, Kasumi, and Diego are the four fighters that you’ll be able to toy around with in the Core Fighters version.

Players on this free edition will also get access to the game’s creation suite, DOA Central. In terms of game modes, online battles (ranked), versus, time attack and the story or quest mode will be available.

It’s also worth mentioning that the full version of the game got an update this week as well. This new patch adds in some support for new costumes, namely the “DOA6 Happy Wedding Costumes Vol.1” pack. There’s also some bug fixes and balance changes included in the patch. Things like hit boxes and hit detection have been adjusted, and many characters have had their moves adjusted to address bugs or had the timing of animations changed. Check out the full patch notes over here.
