Corsair continues to diversify, acquires streaming giant Elgato

Elgato

Corsair continues to grow as a dominant force in the gaming industry, and this week they’ve become even more of a force to be reckoned with. Corsair and Elgato Gaming announced that that the latter would be absorbed by the former in a full acquisition.

Business as usual for most people, as the Elgato name will carry on a separate brand within the Corsair structure. Other aspects of the business will remain somewhat independent as well. The Elgato Eve line, for example, is sticking around. The deal itself is for the gaming and streaming related aspects of the Elgato line.

Corsair and Elgato confirmed the news via press releases, and of course via Twitter.

We don’t know the financial side of the deal, but that will probably become public knowledge during the latest earnings release for either company.

As for the future, it’s a little hard to predict. Corsair is in a very competitive peripherals market alongside the likes of SteelSeries, and they need a good leg-up to really dominate. The company already sponsors many streamers and events, and this partnership with Elgato might give them a notoriety edge that they need.

It will be interesting to see if any new products hit the gaming scene as a result of this deal. We’ll just have to wait and see.
