Company behind black PlayStation 5 shell has cancelled orders

SUP3R5 cancels all orders of retro PS5 skin

The PlayStation 5 has been tough to find, as have many other products. The hassle of getting a new console is enough to drive many mad. The PS5 is very sought after and there’s a good reason for that. With the future of gaming in 2021 and beyond growing into new heights, there are lots to come. Some players had problems with the look of the new console. That stark white school binder look was a big departure from the darker shells common from the PS2 onward.

That led to many gamers looking for a way to get a new look for the console. Enter SUP3R5, a company that has promised to bring out a new custom shell for the PS5. Though by now it looks like the black PlayStation 5 shell will not be happening at all. The company canceled all orders for the custom black skin after allegedly receiving threats to staff members. As of now, there is no timeline for the project to return if it does.

As reported by Video Games Chronicle, SUP3R5 has canceled all orders and deleted their official Twitter account. So it looks like many gamers are not getting their retro PlayStation design after all.

According to the now-deleted SUP3R5 Twitter account, the company claimed that their “team began receiving credible threats to their safety. We take these threats seriously, and as a result, we’re not proceeding forward. All orders are being canceled with full refunds.”  This sounded really suspicious to many users and those folks doubted that the threats ever occurred. Although realistically, the refunds coming in do something to help remedy these concerns.

The strangest part of this whole thing is that the manufacturer is basically reselling consoles. The black-shelled variants cost $649 and $749 for the digital and disc drive versions, Which means the company is just buying consoles and then installing the innards into a custom shell. One Reddit comment from the design’s creator attached with images is still live, if you want to check them out.

That alone would be pretty weird right? But it gets stranger. The company shut down its Twitter account and it’s now become very hard to even ensure you get a refund if you already placed an order. So I guess you should probably be on the phone with your bank or credit company to get that refund. And yes, already gamers are reporting that they’re having problems getting their refunds for the console.

For their weird part, SUP3R5 has complete disappeared, leaving confused consumers in their wake. Not only can consumers not get a normal console is bad enough, but the fact that this overpriced skin is now off the market is just insulting. And since there’s nary a product to buy or Twitter page to get updates from, a lot of people are right to be angry.
