Focus Home Interactive and Dontnod Entertainment’s forthcoming action role-playing game Vampyr is heading for your jugular. The game releases for PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 5, and the devs held a special livestream today that shows off quite a bit of juicy gameplay.
Check out the VOD below in full. Contained within is plenty of gameplay for Vampyr as well as an in-depth discussion of development of the various gameplay systems at work here. One of the biggest elements is the inclusion of a morality system that will have a direct impact on gameplay and difficulty. The choice of whether you feed on humans or animals has multiple pros and cons. If yo feed on human NPCs, you’ll be much more resilient and powerful, but more hunters will come after you as chaos reigns due to panic. If you take the arguably more peaceful route, and feed on the likes of sewer rats, you’ll barely be sated in terms of your need to feed, but vampire hunters and other groups will be too busy with other threats to deal with you.
This mentality also carries through to social interactions as well. NPCs can take note of the shifts in your personality as you play, and this will make them more or less likely to treat you nicely depending on the choices made. Overall, rich story arcs and a beautiful Victorian setting coalesce into a dark and brooding story about what someone will sacrifice to survive.
