Can you play Elden Ring offline?

Can you beat the Grafted Scion in Elden Ring?

FromSoftware has a true smash-hit on its hand. Elden Ring has exploded all over the games industry. The game has a huge amount of variety of challenge to throw into the laps of gamers, and that has caused people to go nuts over it. The game might seem as a singleplayer action title, but it’s so much more.

Like previous games from FromSoftware, Elden Ring features multiplayer online action and tons of hidden elements that make this section of the game more engaging. You can take on bosses together, or duel each other in PvP. The invasion mechanic returns from other genre titles, bringing players a constant threat of PvP and death. Although even though death in this game isn’t too punishing, things are still tons of fun.

That’s not fun for everyone though, as some folks don’t want to deal with PvP. This begs the question, can you play Elden Ring offline? And since there’s a definite requirement to be fair, even just modding can get you banned from online entirely. Players wishing to mod the game will have to play offline if they don’t want to get banned.

How to turn on offline mode in Elden Ring

Fortunately, FromSoftware knows that some players want to avoid the messages and bloodstains, as well as the PvP. Here’s how to launch the game in an offline mode, preventing you from going online.

To play Elden Ring offline, head to the pause menu and go to System, then Network. At the bottom of the menu, there’s a Launch Setting option. Change that from Play Online to Play Offline. Once that’s done, you can play offline entirely during your time with the game. If you want to return to online play, make sure to turn this setting back to its default.

Doing this will launch the game in an offline state. If you want to take it a step further, you can also put Steam in Offline Mode. Offline Mode allows you to play games through Steam without having an active connection to the Steam Network. From the main Steam window, go to the Steam menu and select Go Offline… Now you just select Restart in Offline Mode to restart Steam in Offline Mode. And then you could also block the game from making outbound connections in your firewall, if you’re going super overboard.
