Can you beat the first boss, Grafted Scion, in Elden Ring?

Can you beat the Grafted Scion in Elden Ring?

That first enemy you will be facing in Elden Ring is quite a doozy. It’s no wonder why the game does this, as the point is to teach you that failure is OK. You’re going to die, a lot. This monstrosity, known as the Grafted Scion kills a lot of new players. One of the things you’re also supposed to learn from this fight is to be patient. A lot of players seem convinced that you can’t even beat this fight. But actually, you can. Keep reading to learn how to beat the first optional boss in Elden Ring, and what you get for doing so.

Can you beat the Grafted Scion?

This boss can be beaten pretty easily with patience. You might want to try a certain starting class to have the best chance. The Astrologer is a pretty good option, as long as you reduce your equip load by removing that shield. Other melee-focused classes want to take this same approach. Opt for a fast weapon and don’t get greedy.

The Grafted Scion has a pretty common combo that the boss does. She will do a trio of sword slashes to track the player. When she winds back, she’s about to leap and go right into the trio of sword slashes. Each time she completes the third slash, you can rush in to land a fast hit or two. Just be sure to dodge out of the way quickly. Ranged attacks are a big help here as well, so bring along some magic for some free damage.

THere’s one more thing to be worried about, her stance switching. The stances she switches between can be determined by how she holds her swords. When she raises her blades you’re about to see the very dangerous spin attack. Keep out of her way when she does this. Keep repeating the process of one or two hits after each trio of swings, and you should be fine.

The reward for this challenging feat is a special weapon. Once defeated, Grafted Scion drops its Ornamental Straight Swords and Golden Beast Crest Shield. It also hands out 3,200 Runes. Great help for a starting player. You can only claim the weapon if you manage to beat the boss during the tutorial section, so you have to be skilled enough to beat it in one go. It’s not easy, but it is possible if you memorize the pattern.

If you’re playing and enjoying the game, good for you! You might have questions though, so we have some guides to help you out. When making a character, picking the right class is important. Figure out how to level up your character once you’re in the game. From there, you might want to learn how to upgrade gear, or maybe how to find powerful weapons, like the Meteorite Staff. Or perhaps you’re a melee player and want that shiny new Rivers of Blood katana to hack away with? There are also tons of crafting jobs to be done, like making multiple types of arrows. And if you’re pursuing ranged upgrades, the Arrow’s Reach Talisman might be a great get.
