Bungie wanted cross-platform save transfers in Destiny 2, Sony stopped them

Destiny 2: Forsaken

The console versions of Destiny 2 have been plagued by one particular lacking feature, and it’s one players have wanted for the game since it launched. Destiny 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in September 2017, and arrived on PC the following month.

Destiny 2 exists on multiple platforms and there’s no real crossover between said platforms. Bungie had plans to implement some kind of cross-platform functionality since launch, but various issues have stood in their path. From technical issues to various issues with console creators like Sony, plans haven’t worked out too well.

But with the launch of Forsaken, the newest content addition to the shooter, Bungie has actually making progress on getting crossovers up and running.  There may not be full cross-platform play, but the plan is to create the ability for players to transfer their progress to various other platforms. Although there’s one big hurdle.

According to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, Sony continues to block the feature from being deployed. Schreier claimed on the Splitscreen podcast (via Eurogamer) that Sony is not willing to work with Bungie yet to get the transfer ability into the game.

‘I heard that Bungie wanted to do character transfers for PS4, PC – before Forsaken came out – but Sony wouldn’t allow it,’ he commented. ‘Sony is just like, we want people to associate Destiny with PS4, even if that means screwing over other players.’
