While fans are busy speculating away on the future of the Borderlands series, and not-so-patiently waiting on the next game, Gearbox and co. are not sitting idly by waiting on the next game to drop into their lap. The company is apparently working on a remaster of the legendary beginning of the weird and quirky shooter franchise. A recent leak suggests that Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition may be coming to PS4.
A recently leaked image displays trophy lists of both Devil May Cry 5 and Borderlands: GOTY on PS4, indicating that a Borderlands re-release may be coming to modern platforms.
Other games in the franchise have been ported to modern platforms before, so there’s some precedent for this kind of thing. There was the Borderlands: Handsome Collection which brought remasters of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel to PS4 and Xbox One, although the original game wasn’t in that bundle.
So if you’re like me and want more Borderlands action, and don’t want to have to mess with the PC version, you may have a glimmer of hope on the horizon. And while this speculation hasn’t been officially confirmed, so take everything with a grain of salt, it does seem likely that Gearbox would want to revive interest in the franchise on another platform as they’ve done in the past. It’s especially likely considering other related developments. For example, the Korean Game Rating Board publish a rating for Borderlands: GOTY 8 months ago, but just over one month ago the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee rated Borderlands: Game of the Year on PS4 and Xbox One as well. So that means that a re-release is on the way at some point, assuming those ratings hold true to a released product.
So if you’re a fan of the Borderlands franchise and a PS4 owner, there’s some good odds that you could be playing a remaster of one of the best shooters of the previous console generation.
What do you think about this? Are you excited for a new remaster of this game? Let us know in the comments.
